YAY SCUBA provides lifeguard training and recertification in Baltimore County. Let us come to your pool and train your lifeguards at the pool that they will be working at. We will work with. your pool to customize the training schedule to fit your staff.

 

You can sign up for a wide range of American Red Cross lifeguarding and water safety courses year-round from our trained professionals who can help you gain the skills and confidence necessary for providing care and instruction when it's needed most. Lifeguard & Water Safety Preparation

Red Cross lifeguarding students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class and pass a swimming skills test. Once students are enrolled, they'll receive the latest science-based training from our experienced instructors and develop skills they'll use for a lifetime.

 

Flexible training courses are available in person or via blended learning, which combines online coursework with in-person skills sessions. What to Expect from Lifeguarding & Water Safety Training

Your facility will benefit from our premier lifeguarding safety programs, which not only include training for a variety of water environments but also third-party assessment of lifeguarding operations. Courses are designed and taught by our industry-leading professionals who understand how to prevent and manage emergencies in and around the water. This training includes water and land rescue techniques and how to deliver critical care such as CPR, use an AED and perform first aid when moments matter.

 

American Red Cross Lifeguard Classes

The American Red Cross lifeguarding classes are designed with your learning style in mind. Our traditional in-person lecture is available to those who prefer a more traditional classroom setting while our blended courses mix both conventional learning along with vital hands- on training. Whatever course design you prefer, our trained team of experts are here to teach you how to respond safely and effectively in the event of a lifeguarding emergency.

During your training process you will be tested on your CPR and First Aid skills, to name a few. The Red Cross provides useful study tools to help you prepare for your lifeguarding test. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Manual contains skills sheets and references to help you understand the importance of water safety and arm you with all of the knowledge necessary to help save lives and avoid injury.

 

Lifeguarding - time commitment

  • Traditional in-person classes. Course length: 25 hours, 20 minutes
  • Blended learning classes. Course length: 19 hours, 30 minutes in-person and 7 hours 30 minutes online. Total - 27 hours
  • Review/Recertification. Course length: 9 hours, 40 minutes

 

Pre-requisites

Minimum age: 15 years

Aquatic skills: Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using feet only; Complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds of starting in the water, swim 20 yards and retrieve a 10 pound object at the depth of 7-10 feet, return to the surface, swim on the back to starting point and exit the water without using steps or ladder.
